Observability Platform
A new observability platform built on OpenTelemetry and the LGTM stack.
- Self-hosted Loki, Mimir, and Tempo on ECS, with Grafana Cloud as a single pane of glass.
- Multitenancy to support the different needs of organizations within Ookla (Ekahau, CellRebel, Downdetector, Speedtest) as well as partner requirements.
- OpenTelemetry pipelines managed by the SRE/Platform team, with custom OpenTelemetry Collector distributions (including custom collector components) for development teams to use across platforms like EC2, ECS, Kubernetes, GCP, bare metal, and local development.
- Standardized attributes across all telemetry for easy querying.
- Custom service page dashboards (golden signals, runtime metrics, and OpenTelemetry pipeline stats per app) and SLOs built on those attributes, so every service onboarded into the platform gets them for free.
- On-call rotations and standardized alerting.
- Monitors internal applications, external-facing APIs, and the Speedtest Server Network.
